Chops Celebrates 2005 World Championship and Prepares for 2006
Minneapolis, MN, November 10, 2005 - Chops, Inc. celebrated its 2005 Class A World Championship this past weekend at its annual banquet and embarked on a new chapter in its short but storied history. On Saturday, November 5, 2005, Chops members elected a new CEO, Bob Bohanek, to lead the organization in 2006 and beyond.
"This ends Chapter 1 and begins Chapter 2," stated Mike Mayer as Chops celebrated their title at their 2005 banquet. The members unanimously approved Bob Bohanek as the new CEO. Bob comes back to Drum Corps after many years off. Bob marched in the late 1980's with the United States Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corps (the 2005 Inter-Service Academy Champions). Bob brings his unique blend of leadership and personality to Chops and is excited to be part of such a successful organization. In the 2005 season, Bob marched as a mello and was voted Best Rookie in the horn line by the members. In addition to his duties as the new CEO, Bob is married to a wonderful and supportive wife, and is a registered Patent Attorney with a law firm in Minneapolis, MN.
In addition to a new CEO, the Board of Directors, earlier in the week, approved Jason Wiley as the Director of Operations. Jason received his three-year pin at the banquet and is a mainstay in the horn line, providing solo performances and guidance for everyone.
Mike Mayer, the founder of Chops, is not straying too far from his position as the group's leader. Mike will be the Program Coordinator for 2006 and is excited to again show the activity what Chops is all about. He played an early cut at the banquet with an opener designed to get people excited about Chops right away. More details on the 2006 program will be available later in the year.
Chops also embarks on a new chapter musically. At its most recent Board Meeting, the corps decided now was the time to transition from its current line to a new line of Bb/F horns from Yamaha.
Chops will be placing a greater emphasis on recruiting in the 2006 season and has named Paige Latham and Megan Lund. Paige and Megan bring a youthful spirit and energy to recruiting and we are looking forward to the many members they will be bringing us.
